The Secretive Thistle Housing, Sanctuary & Scottish Housing Regulator Stitch Up

1,663 DAYS – FOUR YEARS + 6 MONTHS + 20 DAYS
since Thistle’s mismanaged Major Works Programme started on 7th January 2016
1,335 DAYS – THREE YEARS + 7 MONTHS + 27 DAYS
since 30th November 2016 when “all of the works to all of the houses in Toryglen will be complete“. Today, Monday 27th July 2020, still incomplete, work proven to be shoddy and more importantly, dangerous and now possibly hazardous to life and limb with millions of pounds required for rectification work. Thistle Housing has hardly lifted a finger to rectify their misdeeds

A conspiracy of secrecy, fiddling and lies at Thistle Housing, all backed up by Sanctuary Housing (who have yet to even present their takeover terms to shareholders and residents) and The Scottish Housing Regulator.

thistle_seeking_sanctuaryA tranche of emails was apparently mistakenly supplied by Thistle as a result of a Subject Access Report, the content of which was horrific. The content of the emails clearly more than suggests that Thistle, Sanctuary and the Regulator were in cahoots to deny a Toryglen resident of his expectations and rights.

It is unsurprising that the main character in this is Miss Daniella Sprott (yup, her again!), the failed Operations Manager, allied with Patricia Cahill, Thistle’s ‘Interim Director’ and John Mulholland, the Regulator’s Statutory Manager.

Once again, secrecy and corrupt practices rear their ugly heads in Thistle but this time, ostensibly with the backing of the Scottish Housing Regulator who has been found severely wanting in its oversight of Thistle Housing in particular and housing associations in general.

The Regulator has been onsite in Thistle Fort for almost two years (ramping up huge charges to Toryglen residents) but with no obvious solution to the array of huge and expensive repairs required to solve the problem of Miss Sprott’s failed Major Works fiasco.Screenshot 2020-07-27 at 09.15.11

Despite promises to publish the results of the so-called and very expensive investigations by September last year, nothing has been seen, requests for sight of the results by residents have been ignored but still huge amounts of cash flow from the coffers of Thistle Housing to no avail, as can be seen by the recent resignation of long term (and useless) members of the Management Committee, as per a blog post here and a Glasgow Times article here.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds have evaporated from Thistle, Committee members resign due to £500,000 being squandered and the Finance Manager has vanished, yet the Scottish Housing Regulator has singularly failed to do anything about it.

Is all of this just a part of a greater housing association fiddle, a confidence trick played on Scottish tax payers, a sad record of complete incompetence by uneducated housing association staff drenched in tribal nepotism and self interest?

Once again the question has to be asked – Why are the people who have caused all the problems in Thistle Housing over nineteen years, still in position, still being paid for their incompetence?
